The World Class Anchor River is located in
Anchor Point, Alaska, at the most westerly highway point in North America. You will enjoy a King Salmon run in mid-May
through mid-June(when it is open), Silver Salmon run
August into September and Steelhead in late August and run until the end of
October, when the river closes. Dolly Varden come into the river in mid-July
and make for awesome Dolly fishing into the fall, when they’re spawning colors
are bright and vibrant.
Most of the river is accessible from the road with several
campgrounds in the lower river. The lower
River is considered to be below the Old Sterling Hwy Bridge, or 100 yards
above the bridge to the ocean. Upper
River is open August 1st – October 31st, from the
lower marker just above the bridge and goes for miles back up into the
valley. All Steelhead and Rainbow trout
are catch and release and may not be removed from the water. The king Salmon range from 15 lbs. to 35 lbs.
in the Anchor River, the Silvers in the 10 -14 lb. average. Steelhead sizes range from 22 inches to 37
inches on average, many in the 28-30 inch range.
The fine Steelhead run, Great Dolly Varden
fishing and 3 of the 5 Pacific Salmon species, make the Anchor River a World
Class River and we protect it to last and stay that way.
